National School Sports Week

Helping children get 60 minutes of activity everyday

Let’s come together to celebrate National School Sports Week this week! It’s important for children to engage in 60 minutes a day of PE, sport and play to set them up for a happy and healthy future. Together we can make this happen, read how you can make a difference.

I’m a teacher!

What can I do in school to help children reach their activity goal?

In this special year of Summer sport, why not capitalise on the excitement of the Olympics and allow young children to enjoy our funetics Sports Day. Combining core PE skills with a fantastic variety of running, jumping and throwing games, it’s all to play for when young children can be a hero for a day whilst having fun with friends.

Created by England Athletics and exclusive to primary schools, the funetics curriculum licence is an easy-to-teach physical activity programme aligned with the national PE curriculum (Key Stages 1 & 2). funetics enables teachers and their support staff to deliver fundamental movement skills – running, jumping and throwing.

Are you looking for training opportunities to deliver run, jump and throw sessions in your school? Join a 'Run, Jump, Throw' workshop for primary teachers for an introduction to primary athletics. Gain a theoretical and practical understanding of delivery in an inclusive, exciting and engaging manner.

I’m a parent!

I want to set my child up with healthy habits for the future. What can I do?

As we look forward to an exciting Summer of Sport, be sure to check out our website for new exclusive content, opportunities to get involved and the latest news from athletics and running. If your child has been inspired to give our sport a go, then we’ve provided some helpful resources in the funetics Home pack, so you can support your child’s PE at home. The pack includes worksheets, activity cards, fun games brought to life in video format, and the history and heroes of the sport led by our very own superhero Katarina Johnson-Thompson (KJT).

The PB awards have been designed to celebrate athlete’s progression and achievements as they reach new ‘personal bests’ across the track and field events. When your child achieves a new level, be sure to celebrate this and present them with a certificate.

Are you looking to keep your children active this summer? Our funetics holiday camps may be the activity you are looking for. They provide a safe, supportive environment for your child to develop the fundamental movement skills and make new friends or have fun with current ones. Keep an eye out in your local area to see if funetics holiday camps are happening near you!

Our official charity partner, the Personal Best Foundation, are levelling the playing field to make athletics more accessible to children and young people across the UK. Learn about the great work they have been doing with an after-school programme in Lewisham.

I’m a coach/aspiring leader.

How can I get involved?

The new funetics Club and Community Activator course is a certified course designed as an entry-level qualification, supporting the delivery of funetics activity through independent sessions. This course is tailored for those who aspire to support the sustainability and growth of junior athletics programmes but do not have an Athletics Coaching Award.

A group of aspiring leaders have already completed the course and are looking to make an impact in the sport with funetics this summer. Be inspired by those who have completed the course.
