New free funetics Home School Pack for primary school children
England Athletics' funetics team have developed an athletics and curriculum-based resource to help primary school children keep active and to support learning in the home environment.
Congratulations to the winners of our Rainbow Medal for our Superheroes competition!
Katarina Johnson-Thompson and funetics announce the winners of the Rainbow Medal Competition which has been celebrating the great work of keyworkers during the Covid-19 Lockdown.
Put your hands together… and drum roll please… our winners are Macy and Halle Millerova. The sisters aged 8 and 6 come from Sheffield and attend Carfield Primary School, Meersbrook, Sheffield. Both have started to enjoy running as well as both take part in performing arts.
Their winning entry included a lovely letter as well as the Rainbow Medal design.
Commenting on the competition and the winners, Katarina said: “I have so enjoyed being involved with the funetics Design a Rainbow Medal competition. To see the not just the talent and the fun expressed in the drawings but the children’s understanding of the different keyworker roles has been amazing. With over 300 entries, there is clearly a lot of support amongst children for keyworkers. The competition also seems to have tapped into the children’s love for rainbows, drawing and competitions.
The prize included a special online video call with KJT herself.
"Meeting Halle and Macyand being part of the competition has been fun and inspirational. There is and rightly so, a lot of love for keyworkers at the moment and it was great to hear about how the kids and their families have been keeping fit and active during lockdown." said Katerina. "Even a shared love of ballet – one of my first passions as a young girl – came into the video call conversation I had with the winners Halle and Macy. Both of whom who are into their performing arts, drawing and running."
Inspiring your children to learn and stay active @home
Are you a parent, teacher or carer looking for different ways to help inspire primary school aged children to get active and to support their curriculum learning at the same time, during these challenging times?
The free-to-download funetics Home School Pack not only helps you teach the fundamental life skills of running, jumping and throwing but also gives children the opportunity to practice academic skills using sport as a foundation.
Based on the new funetics programme from England Athletics, the Home School pack provides fun athletics sessions to help 4-11 year old children stay active and learn in ways which reflect the requirements of the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2. Which in turn, is based on the award-winning framework of our Athletics 365 courses for young athletes.
We are proud to be able to produce a unique resource which not only teaches the fundamental life skills of running, jumping and throwing but which gives children the opportunity to practise academic skills using sport as a foundation.
The funetics Home School Pack includes:
- Activity cards
- Fun games (supporting topics in the curriculum) brought to life in video format
- The history and heroes of the sport and a competition to support these super-heroes lead by our very own super hero Katarina Johnson-Thompson (KJT)
- Supporting exercise videos from KJT will be added in the coming weeks too

funetics Activity Videos
England Athletics and funetics have fast forwarded the launch of our new funetics activity videos. The videos demonstrate parents and children (aged 4-11) taking part in FUN activities based on fundamental core movement skills: running, jumping and throwing.
At this time when our children are currently schooling at home, we hope that these video activities will support the need for education to continue at home.
You can access all of the videos through our funetics YouTube channel.
Please note: All of these videos were made prior to the outbreak of coronavirus with the aim of enabling multiple parents and children to come together to enjoy fun athletics. Please restrict the activities to your own family (excluding any members who are self-isolating) and within your own garden or home. Do not perform these activities in a public setting at this time.
