Importance of legacy

It is the vision of England Athletics and funetics to grow capacity in track and field athletics clubs and other community settings and to deliver high quality ‘run jump throw’ activity to improve physical literacy and the first experience of the sport amongst 4-11 year olds.

Super-charging our delivery of funetics to thousands of children and young people aged 4-11 years at both track and field clubs and within community settings as a legacy to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will bring our vision into reality.

funetics is fundamental

Athletics is where it all begins. Learning to run, jump and throw is the foundation for a lifetime of activity. From playground to podium our sport offers everybody, irrespective of size, shape, cultural background or disability, the opportunity to achieve great things and to live a healthier and happier life.

We want to help children of all backgrounds and abilities to flourish and reach their full potential. We need to create opportunities for children and young people to find our sport and, from there, sustain their participation in the sport.

We believe the key to sustaining participation will be improving experiences for everyone involved and putting the needs of athletes and runners at the heart of everything we do.
